Christine Tan is a Senior Counsellor at Lim-Loges and Masters. Certified since 2013, she provides a strategic approach to coaching and counselling with areas of expertise in addiction counselling and relationship counselling. She began her career as a change management consultant with Accenture, before holding marketing positions at International organisations and then moving to become Executive Director at the Prison Fellowship Singapore (PFS). She now uses her extensive skills to coach and counsel leading business executives.

Could you describe your typical day?

I don’t really have a typical day. My schedule is generally divided into 3 areas – running counselling sessions, managing my charity and managing family/parenting demands.

What are the key skills you need for your work?

For me, I need to be excellent at time management, personable, a great planner and adept at strategy.

What part of your job do you find the most challenging?

Juggling so many balls, it’s always a struggle to find enough down time.

What aspects of your work do you find most enjoyable?

I find most aspects of my work gratifying, except the challenge of time I just mentioned. I especially enjoy the fascinating journey I go on with each of my clients during their counselling/coaching sessions.

Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader?

My father. He believed in me when it seemed to me like no one else did.

What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?

Stay humble. And don’t be so hard on yourself!

What developments on the horizon do you see as shaping the future of your industry/role?

Seeking support from a counsellor and/or a coach is no longer a stigma. People (especially the younger ones), are more open to talking about their struggles, and are more willing to seek help from therapists. This creates more opportunities to shape the way coaching/counselling services can be integrated to provide employees with a holistic approach to employee welfare.

What inspires you?

Meeting people who are authentic and passionate about what they do.

What do you think is the best way to innovate?

Decide on what matters to you and determine if you can make a difference and, if so, how. And then just do it.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

To give myself enough time alone to dream. And to constantly remind myself that a leader is just a designation

What is one of the most interesting experiences you have encountered in your career?

The day I ditched the word “career” and not let it define what I do.

Why do you like being part of the LLM team?

It gives me perspective and context of what the corporate world is like currently, and how I can make a difference from a non-corporate perspective.

What are the key projects you worked on as part of LLM?

I worked on a dynamic coaching assignment with LLM for a client in Vietnam.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

I run and spend alone time travelling.
